@haileyosbrne: From the back seat my 4 year old said “you’re the best mommy” followed by my three year old stating “you ARE the best, but I just don’t like when you are loud to me”. (AKA raising my voice at her) For a moment I internally rolled my eyes, because she has been WILD lately. A lot of big big fits and reactions. Then I felt a gentleness washed over me in the car, and I quickly realized she was genuinely trying to express her feelings. So I simply asked her “Okay, what can we try instead” then started filming. These fits have caused some strain to our daily flow. Remember, this is my first time being a mom! We’ve never had a conversation like this before and I’m interested to see what happens going forward showing intentionality with their suggestions. Will they notice? Will it work? WHO KNOWS! Maybe I’ll update later on what happens?? Idk just thought I’d share this moment ❤️
8 years of therapy never came close to what this 60 second video just did 🙏❤️

I’ll try to talk calmly and you try to listen the first time so I don’t have to raise my voice 😂

as someone who grew up in a violent household, I still get overwhelmed with yelling. This conversation was very healing for me - what I wish I could have said to the adults in my life, and what I wish my adults said and did for me 🌹thank you

When my son was little he told me that when I yelled at him it scared him and that he knew he was in trouble and would just prefer the punishment. He said when I yelled he tuned me out and didn’t hear me. Sooo I listed and it actually worked well.

You’re raising kids who will not have to spend the majority of their adulthood recovering from their childhood. Job well done 🩷

It shows so much in your parenting that they felt okay enough to even bring this up and have these thought processes. They trust you’ll listen and try because they’ve seen you display that behaviour before. Great job!! 👏🏻
