Also need to advocate! The US hospital wanted to discharge my dad post a traumatic brain injury. I needed to advocate and use all my connections in Toronto to get a doctor to accept him and get him repatriated. He then had 1.5 months in a rehab hospital where he regained speech… meanwhile in the US they would have just discharged with no rehabilitation plan. I only knew because I worked in a Neuro trauma icu.

Sadly with chronic illnesses travel insurance can be quite difficult to navigate in finding an affordable plan, reach out to medical underwriters is my tip, they work wonders! Thank you for bringing awareness to this Shania, so important to be prepared!

Yep! I never had health insurance before and will be getting it from now. I just came from a. Trip where I had a medical emergency at the airport, couldn’t fly and was sent to the hospital and needed a procedure done. I was lucky that this country, everything was free. But you just never know!!
