@i2c_jason: Quick intro to designing N-channel MOSFETs into your next circuit design. Turn on that LED or motor with a FET! #electronics #howto #intro #engineering #DIY
With this current job market I don’t think this info will do much for you without an EE degree. I’m about to grad ECE and it’s rough out here.

I’m doing my capstone project and have to design a ESP microcontroller PCB for a solar home lighting system that’s has a camera, motion and light sensors etc and is controlled by an app. Any tips/recommendations on where to start?

it's not 120$/hr skill it's literally electronics basics

that diode between source and drain isn't optional or a separate part, it's an integral part of how a MOSFET works, in it's natural state it's a 4 terminal device with weird characteristics, connecting the substrate to one end makes it much more usable and creates this diode, all 3 terminal MOSFETs have it. and it doesn't help with inductive loads, it's in the opposite direction, against current flow.

When you givs a pulse to gate or to a capacitor there is flowing current!

MOSFET are also faster at switching than BJTs too right?

The arrow should be the other way and point to the source in NMOS FETs.

I have a question, I want to get into designing my own circuits, but anything more than just a few wires, a resistor and an LED starts to confuse the hell out of me. What would be your advice for training the skill of building and being able to read more complex circuits?

You can’t use FET in this circuit, you can use just mosfet , because fFET need negative voltage to cut off !!!!!

All good solid stuff. So much can be explained through potential dividers, voltage or current levels and the idea of a switch.
great explanation and teaching.

FET Isn't AKA MOSFET. But MOSFET is AKA FET.
This is because, Under FETs, there are MOSFET, JFET etc. You're welcome..

you will need a resistor on the pin driving the gate.. you need to limit inrush current into the gate from the micro to chatge the gate.

I didnt saw this symbol before. Also driving gate directly from uC without resistor?? With higher switch frequency higher current will be drawn from uC.
