No Dwight. I get what you’re saying but no. He could have had the conversation in private. Keeping race in mind is the bigger picture to protect Olandria. His feeling didn’t need a platform. He should have took one for the team and had a private conversation. He handled this one carelessly.

It’s exhausting seeing ppl focus on the nic comment and anything else but this specific part. I feel Ace was speaking nothing but facts in this interview and I really hope all the Black contests on this season are taking care of their mental health. I can’t imagine how heavy this must be.

It’s unfortunate because if he knows the nuances black people face- why speak in a way that he knows is going to cause more negative attention to a black woman? It was just disappointing.

I wish he had more forethought in how his words and reactions in this interview would negatively impact both Olandria AND Chelly (people going to her to hold her man accountable but it’s HIS words, not hers) and particularly in regards to larger narratives around Black women only being desirable for our bodies/objects of sexual desire but never love. (I.e saying Nic is only physically attracted to Olandria).

I hold it down for my brethren and I absolutely lean into and appreciate Ace’s sentiment about the treatment of Black folk on LIUSA (side note: If you think the USA franchise is bad folks should watch the UK one, as it is ten times worse). However, I gotta maintain that Ace doing this interview was messy. He should have stuck to his experience and his relationship versus trying to do a scorched earth expose. Not only does the interview make him look hella bad, but it also makes his best friend Taylor look more like a clout chaser, and Olandria look clueless and desperate (despite knowing that this is not the case). How can he say that he considers Olandria a friend and then intimate that Taylor was encouraged to date and maintain the relationship, all the while helping him to maintain and further this dishonesty. This is beyond messy. As an Islander he needs to feel free to speak his truth, as LIUSA / UK is hella problematic with it’s treatment of Black folk on air, having watched all seasons of all of it’s franchises (except Australia) I can attest that they need to do better…but I wish Ace worked with a publicist, as Ace makes valid and important points but sadly, I feel they will be lost given some of the positioning.
