For those still confused after reading comments with only partial explanations:
1. The zebra striped board is a visual indicator for the conductor to know that the train is stopped at the correct point along the platform before opening the doors. (And that the doors are opening on the correct side of the train)
2. The reason for pointing is a safety protocol known as "point and call" in which a person essentially narrates out loud what they are doing and points at what they're looking at. It has proven to be an effective psychological tool in preventing mistakes that could happen due to someone being less alert or "on autopilot" especially during repetitive simple tasks.
I'm not an expert, this is just my understanding.

Helmut :
it's called point and call, it's an extra step to make sure that the train operator does not open the doors on the other side of the trian where there is no platform

Mary in TN :
Zebra board can be used by women who want to stand in the right spot to board the car with the conductor. The conductor uses the board to show that the train is stopped in the correct location.

We have to acknowledge the conductors board to assure that the train operator stopped at the right spot and all the doors are in the station

I'm reading the comments and seeing different reasons concerning the pointing.
But if i can take a guess, since there isn't cameras on the platform facing the stripped mark, i would assume it's an employee in training. That's the most logical thing I could think of since there's no other logical explanation, especially if there's no cameras that'll cover it's tracks for the pointing.
