why do adults think its easier for kids to deal with anxiety and depression. Just because you had to become an adult to experience deep emotion and life circumstances doesn't mean thats everyone's experience. by 8 years old I had tried to unalive. depression can hit young. and no they dont understand mental health at all. why is our brain treated as separate from our body?

Amen! I had to learn to be a better parent to my kids with mental health problems. It’s crushing to think there are kids out there being told to “man up” when they need help.

As a special needs teacher for 35 years you need to work with them. You can’t fix it if you push them into a typical kids behavior. If you push you will not have them long. They are the verge of unaliving themselves. If they are cutting, or any other self abusive behavior don’t ever ignore them. Be their safe space. They don’t want to be living with these journeys and need support. Sometimes they don’t know why the are doing these things.

I have a child with mental health issues. We got her the help she needed and today she is thriving. I don’t understand why people have to be so rude. Where is the compassion among these people. I’m so sorry that these people said that to you.

You are being a good parent! Those comments are by parents whose kids would be suicidal if they had mental issues. It’s depressing to see those comments. Keep up the good work. And thanks for speaking about it. And thanks to your son for being open to letting you help others with his issues.
