I graduated high school two years ago and I remember thinking about what happened if a shooter would come in basically my whole school career and waiting for it to become more than just walking down the halls. And watching the news I saw that there were two by fours at the doors and it’s presumed to help block the exits and that they shot through the window. I’m curious what school shootings are gonna look like for the rest of the year with this being the first one with attempts to block the doors to keep the students from being able to run.

Tomorrow I begin teaching my first class. We had a 30 second “guidance” on what to do with an active shooter and it was basically “just run, know the exits”. I’m appalled. At all of it. And what do you say to the students who are worried? We’re not trauma counselors. But now we are pseudo-counselors. Activists. Far more than what we have been trained for. This is education; we are teachers, not trained counselors, not marksmen.

My 1st year of teaching was Sandy Hook, my 10th was Uvalde. The ever present rage I feel is indescribable. The fact that I’m happy my son is sick today so we can be home together, safe, is so beyond infuriating that I can’t even find the word.

can confirm that when I was in school we did lock down drills and the fear of a school shooting was always with me. it wasnt the drills. it was the fact that we needed them.

Sandy Hook was such a low low point in our society and it’s absolutely insane that we have had so many more since. Rinse and repeat 😡 I’m a retired teacher living in America and our school had sliding glass doors for room entry ways. My room was at the front of school right next to a side door. I blocked the front window and my sliding glass door with my metal storage cabinet and metal cubbies when I could have been using the space to display students work.

I’m a new 9th grader this year, over the summer I planned out escape routes through the school and safe spots inside the school if anything ever happens. My school is more worried about the clothes we wear and if we have our phones rather than running drills on what to do if something was to happen. There was a possible shooting last year that got called “maintenance issues”, my sisters class ran across the road to the rec department and hid there. The GBI and FBI came and interviewed them and all but it was nothing in their words. I hate this school system

Apalachee is my hometown , I work 2 minutes from the school. My dad’s house backs up into the school basically & you wanna know the crazy thing ? Barrow County defunded the Resource officer who found the shooter that day…… they DEFUNDED HIM , let that sink in.

I was in first grade when sandy hook happened. I was in sixth grade when Stoneman Douglas happened. I am currently in my second year of college. Let that sink in. When will enough be enough. At this point I’m tired of the left and the right. I’m tired of this being black and white. This should be enough to do something. Kids should be enough to start figuring out something to change these outcomes.

It’s so frustrating to see that nothing. Absolutely nothing is being done to protect these babies from harms way. No mother, no father, no sibling, NO FAMILY MEMBER should have to worry about someone they care about making it home safe from school. The government of America has their blood on their hands.
