1- The majority of natives brought their kids to these schools to get higher education 2- Many of these schools were located on reservations 3- "Mass Graves" at these schools never found one body but millions in funding disappeared

Heartbreaking. This and the “Starlight Express” are blemishes on Canadian history.

I'm a 60 scoop. Never fit in as a child. I fortunately did find my mother as well. I've since embraced my culture over the last decade. A journey of healing.

If folkx read both the Truth & Reconciliation Commission report and the National Inquiry, they will see why this continues today. Until every Cdn gets on board with pushing themselves, their school boards, provincial and federal representatives, this will continue.

Can you provide soe sources to support the idea that in the 70's adopting a native child was considered 'saving them from residential.schools'? I'd love to have more info..i've never heard that pov

My grandmother lost her 5 children to the catholic children's aid because a single indigenous mother could not possibly raise them. No other reason given.

My mama and two sisters were scooped and adopted separately into white families. The day my aunt came back from the Netherlands is also the day my mom was also reunited with most of her family.

Peace and respect for all 🇨🇦 :
I keep learning more about the horrors that were done to indigenous people :( I didn’t know children were taken out of the country too. No wonder there is so much generational trauma.

So happy to see a fellow scooper find their way home. I live in the U.K. and adopted by British parents who were not told the true story of my forced removal from birth family by RCMP and Social Services. I never got to meet my birth parents, both sadly passed before I made my way home following Ancestry 🧬 but I met my niece and other family members. 🪶

My mother was scooped at birth, she was declared dead to her mother and adopted by a white family. Thankfully she got a loving home and she was able to reconnect with her birth mother as an adult.
