@stereogum: @David Bowie and Mick Jagger’s “Dancing In The Street” was released 40 years ago today. It hit #1 in the UK and #7 in the US, Bowie’s final top 10 hit in the country. They performed it live in concert only once, at the 1986 Prince’s Trust Rock Gala. The duo settled on the classic Motown cover after originally planning to do Bob Marley’s “One Love.” David Mallet’s memorably corny “Dancing In The Street” video was filmed two months prior and debuted at Live Aid, where it screened twice. Bowie was a big fan of Strack Azar and Michael Stevantoni’s “silent” parody that went viral in 2016. Bowie and Jagger’s original clip, which was named “the worst music video of all time” in a 2014 ‘Guardian’ readers’ poll (rude), was recently remastered in 4k and the single will be reissued on white vinyl for its 40th anniversary this Friday. #DavidBowie #MickJagger
