@dariusryankadem: If your four-year-old keeps breaking play rules you’ve set, they’re not trying to be disobedient, defiant and difficult, it’s because they’re struggling in three key developmental areas: 1. Self-regulation because their impulses and excitement override the rule. 2. Perspective-taking because they aren’t yet consistently able to see how their actions affect others. 3.Rule-application because their focus on the action in the moment makes it hard to hold onto and apply abstract rules. Beacuse she engaged in collaborative and proactive solutions, She has stronger memory and clarity because she’s not just hearing the rule, she’s seeing it, phrasing it, and rehearsing it. She’s more cooperative and less resistant because she feels ownership not just compliance.
