He released it after almost 3 years absence in the Vocaloid community. it was the 2nd song added as part of the 2nd Half-Anniversary Song Campaign. On the surface, it is about a girl who wants to remember her past self's name, as shown in the video (Up to a person's interpretation), but can't. At the end of the song, the girl remembers the forgotten name. The lyrics are vague as to a deeper meaning and many diverse interpretations have been created. This song entered the Hall of Myths in April 2023 and has exceeded over 50 million YouTube views. Hence, this is one of Hachi's most notable songs, and one of GUMI's most notable songs. Hachi would later reupload the song on September 29, 2024 with a brand new PV produced by animation studio Production I.G as part of a collaboration with chocolates brand GODIVA. The PV 2024 entered the Hall of Fame and reached 1 million views on YouTube within 10 hours of its upload. As of May 2025, the PV has exceeded 10 million views on YouTube and has entered the Hall of Legends. Donut Hole is the only song to have its name and the in-game MV changed.
