I mean who's perspective is it that bio mom only takes things away that dad buys? or is dad buying expensive gifts like phone/tablet/computer/gaming system. which even in my home where I bought everything those tend to be the things I take away for punishment. if theyre 5 hours away and not involved in day to say parenting I dont see how they'd have a full picture unless theyre interrogating the kid to get info on the house.

Side note: if the car is going to be stored at Mom’s house, the insurance will require everyone in that house to be covered on insurance. If someone else drives, wrecks the car, it won’t be covered. Just a thought. Mom should cover insurance.

Dad should have a talk with the kiddo about the car & how mom takes away the things “he” buys as punishment. Explain you really want to get them the car but would feel better doing it when they are 18 & can gave it in their name & that way mom has no right to take away the privilege of the car!

I had this issue and was able to get a modification where we paid for a parking spot near where their other parent lived but not on the other parents property so they couldn't use "well, its at my house" as a reason to take the car and that if the car was something they wanted to take away as a restriction it could only be on agreement between us only and keys had to come to us. also they would always be allowed to use it for visitation purposes regardless of restrictions because at that point they are driving themselves to and from.

I would get the car and if it got taken from the child I'd call it theft 🤷♀️. its not for bio mom to take away unless something like a traffic violation happens.

We did the exact same. We have an extra key to take to sd16 if mom takes the car and bm knows that it isn't in her name she cannot take it.

Go back to court and have it placed that the car can only be taken away if BOTH parents are in agreement. I would even go to flipping custody if mom punishes child with only dad and dads things

As a mom don’t send anything to my house. I don’t want my child to misbehave and then I don’t have a say on what can and can’t be taken away just because I don’t buy it.

Check the state you and they live in. They may not have to wait until they're 18 to have it in their name. Put it in yours and hers.

I would be more worried about other people not on the ins driving it. Can you send a notarized letter? Exclude drivers from ins? It sounds like you might want to wait to get kiddo a car. If they need one at mom’s, she can get one.

I hate to say it but absolutely not taking the car to mom’s house. Bonus kiddo can use it at dad’s house. It’s too far and too many what ifs. When kiddo turns 18, they can move it to kiddos name if they can afford the insurance. Just way too many issues and putting kiddo in that awkward position
