Hell, we couldn't have our phones is basic when I was in the Army. Or in AIT, for that matter. Our SOLE focus was trainin.. but that was in 2011.. it's different now. Part of the reason I ain't still in 🤣🤣 the caliber of "Soldiers" they're bringin in now is RIDICULOUS

it really isn't that deep man. I went in with a wife and child. I would've loved to have my phone once a week for basic communication.

I once saw a soldier show up late to morning PT and get marked as UA. Instead of taking responsibility, he just said, “Forget it, I’m going back to bed.” Allowing phones in boot camp only feeds that kind of attitude. Discipline and accountability should come first, not convenience.

We used to stand in line to use the pay phones on Sunday to contact family/friends. So same principle just new technology

Good for Marines. Phone calls have been used this way since at least the 80’s. Difference now instead of a pay phone it’s a cell phone.

I made 2 phone calls when I was at Parris Island . One to say I made it and one on my liberty after the crucible. And it was a payphone, not a Cell Phone

I mean I went through in 2017 and had three calls for about 30 minutes each and I honestly could have done without it. I mean the last call was to basically to confirm the graduation date. but with each call it just made me want to quit and go home because I missed home. so I honestly believe the whole thing dealing with phone was a bad decision in my opinion.

If I’m correct Air Force let’s recruits every Sunday they have small lockers in the hallways of the BMT buildings for their phones

It’s a reward and punishment thing it sounds like. I went through basic in 2000 and as an atheist I didn’t even get to leave for church on Sunday that hour and a half with a phone would have been nice.

We didn't have cell phones in 1989, we had limited phones to call home on only on the weekends when allowed.
