A memorial sculpture made for my maternal grandparents. Their image is printed on tissue paper and laid on top of a bed of rice. The form represents a star, seeing them as my north star, my guiding light. They immigrated to the United States in their adulthood, along with my mom and her siblings. Without their dedication, bravery and discomfort, I would not exist because my parents met in Texas. Having the privilege to pursue art, something so ingrained with my happiness and personhood is truly owed to them. I'm not sure they would understand my desire to make, especially as a career, but making art is the ultimate freedom and in its own way meets their goal of creating a life of possibilities for their family. #art #artist #sculpture #artprocess #artistsoftiktok
