Lenexa City Councilwoman Melanie Arroyo was investigated by Lenexa Police after an anonymous caller asked the Kansas Bureau of Investigation to look into Arroyo’s immigration status – and if she was eligible to hold public office. Arroyo was born in Mexico, but became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018, three years before being elected to city council.
