The Movimiento de Participación Popular (MPP) is a Uruguayan left-wing political party, founded by formers of the Movimiento de Liberación Nacional-Tupamaros. The MPP is part of the Frente Amplio, its leader is José Mujica.[ 4] The MPP is running for election under the Spazio 609 brand. In 2004, after several years of electoral progress, Spazio 609 became the most voted sector within the Frente Amplio, the ruling party. Since the 2004 presidential election, several members of the movement have held important positions in the Uruguayan government. This is the case, for example, of Princess Nora Castro, president of the Chamber of Deputies during the 2005-2006 period, and José Mujica, [5] Minister of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries between 2005 and 2008; plus other ministers such as Eduardo Bonomi and Julio Baraibar in Labor. In 2009 he became president of the country with José Mujica, however he resigned from the MPP during the electoral process, to be the "candidate of all the Frenteamplistas," returning to be part of the party once his term of government ended. Background edit When the Frente Amplio was founded in 1971, the Tupamaros were an urban group, not dedicated to the exercise of formal politics. After the civil-military dictatorship (1973-1985), several of the Tupamaran leaders having suffered imprisonment and torture, there were many who speculated on a return to the armed route. However, this was not the case; one after the other, the formers opted for the political route to achieve their objectives, which are translated into the slogan "For national liberation and socialism."[ 6][7][7 Birth edit In 1989, the Tupamaros were admitted as a group in the Frente Amplio. With this background, the former MLN militants created the Popular Participation Movement (MPP) together with other radical left-wing groups such as the Party for the Victory of the People with Hugo Cores, the Oriental Revolutionary Movement (MRO) and the Socialist Workers Party (PST). However, on that occasion, former MLNs, such as Julio Marenales, declined to participate in the electoral contest. The MPP list, identified since that year with the number 609, which was integrated with independents and members of the rest of the aforementioned groups, was headed by labor lawyer Helios Sarthou. On that occasion they obtained two deputies for, Sarthou and Cores. First defections edit In 1992 the Eastern Revolutionary Movement decided to abandon the MPP (and soon after the Frente Amplio) due to political differences with the MPP's leadership, stating that the MPP was "disengaging from Sendic's program of non-payment of foreign debt, agrarian reform, nationalization of banking and foreign trade."[ 8] In subsequent years, the rest of the founding organizations of the MPP except the MLN would abandon the political movement. In 1994 the PVP distanced itself, in 1996 from the Socialist Workers Party and, later, from the Revolutionary Communist Partyl 9]. Evolution and growth edit In the 1994 elections, for the first time in the history of Uruguay, former leftists participated as electoral candidates. The MPP increased its vote, obtaining one seat in the Senate for Helios Sarthou, and two seats in deputies for; one of the newly elected deputies was José Mujica. Eleuterio Huidobro was also a substitute senator for a few days. Both legislators declared that they are "feeling bored" by the lack of legitimacy in their parliamentary work, which Mujica summarized in the phrase: "I don't want to be a vase." #richarlison #totnhamhotspur #brazil #🇧🇷 #PremierLeague
