@sajonesceramic: Yesterday a senior said "when no one has their phone and we all know that, it's a good thing." The positive impacts to the learning community are already incredible and I think its going to be a great year. The phone ban is drastic but the benefits for the teens are going to far outweigh the fact that I cant see photos of their pets immediately. #teacher #phoneban #nh

Make it like an extra credit thing for them to email you a picture of their pet (or a neighborhood pet or something if they don’t have one) sounds like you’re an art teacher so idk how many kids would need or want extra credit for that but we need to do something to get them to send these emails!

Nope I send my kid to school with her phone. She doesnt always come home (goes to other people's homes) or this year I would like to get her into some school activity and I want to make sure she can connect me. There was one year they didnt inform us that they weren't dropping kids off at the door but somewhere down the street in our neighborhood, we had no clue where she was, she panicked because it wasnt her bus driver but a fill in one and her driver had no clue if parents were informed or not. It caused anxiety and panic and lack of communication on the schools part. my kid will have her phone.

It's not "illegal". There's no law. It's a school district policy

When something does go wrong explain to me the logistics of you having every student use your phone to call their parents. How do you choose which student goes first? How do you choose which parent gets informed last? These kids have been born into a world where technology is here to stay period and AI will grow and become more prominent. Yes they shouldn’t use it in class, but lunch, break, in between classes if they want to get a quick call to parents to ask if they can go to so and so’s how’s after school. Anyone saying they need to be perma banned is outdated and old.

Here’s my problem with this: what if my child needs to get ahold of me between classes for any number of potential reasons? She can’t use her phone during her lunch period to send me a text? This being the priority rather than finding a way to keep my child from being shot at in school is complete bullshit. I will die on this hill. When we were in school we did not live in a society that has to run active shooter drills. We didn’t need to have a way to communicate in this kind of emergency. We can’t hold our kids to the standards of our own childhoods, that’s asinine and dangerous. I get not being allowed to have it in class but when they’re not in class they need to be able to use their phones to contact their parents at the very least.

in TX, racist teachers feel more empowered to be openly racist in class because teachers aren't worried about going viral 😭

As a parent in NH, no. I want my kids to be able to reach me or 911 in the event of an emergency. School sh**tings are far too common for me to be ok with them not having their phones on them.

okay but someone who has friends outside of my school even in other states my phone is how i communicate with them and i don’t want to loose contact with them because some of my only free time is while im at lunch or not in class during school. teens should not be force to be friends with everyone around them. yes i have friends at school but their not my only friends. friends outside of school are the ones you truly choose not the ones you know because your around them 7 hours a day 5 days a week for ten months

I find the ban to be so lazy. It’s like parents who think hitting their kids. It’s an easy way out. So glad I’m no longer in highschool or below for this ban, especially as someone who’s been in a school shooting lockdown due to actual threats (one was a drive by right next to the school and the other was supposed to be a “senior prank” but we’d been on lockdown for over an hour and no one was told what was happening). I wouldn’t have been able to text my mom I loved her if the threat was very much real like it felt like it was for me in that moment.

I would simply say “idc” as a mom lol my kid is bringing their phone to school I quite literally don’t care what the state or school has to say. If there’s an emergency I want my sons to be able to get in touch with me immediately. First week of school and there was already a school shooting!!

Correct they have to email. I'm loving this law. It has really helped out in the classroom. I have to say it didn't change the rules in our school (southern NH middle school btw) we have always been no cell phone.
