I live in downtown Chicago. Some Chicagoans here pretend that downtown Chicago is ALL of Chicago. But it is not. There are Chicago neighborhoods where primarily African American males and others are being shot, mamed, and/or murdered every day. It is not a joke. It is not funny. Something must change. Don't sell a lie that all of Chicago is safe. That is an insult to the mothers, fathers, brothers, and sisters of loved ones whose lives have been tragically cut short by violent crime. This is not political. This is HUMAN. It is not okay. When one person dies from violent crime in our city, a piece of all of us dies. My point is not to endorse or denounce Trump's plans for Chicago. My point is to encourage fortunate Chicagoans not living in the line of gunfire to stop acting like Chicago violence is okay, as long as the violence us happening in a southside or westside neighborhood. Pritzker can take all the walks he wants along Chicago's safe, northside lakefront with his security detail tagging along behind his camera. However, for the governor to portray his morning stroll as a field study proving ALL of Chicago is safe... is at the very least disingenuous. And at its worst, it is simply not humane.
