@dustythunder_: Replying to @Dusty Thunder the one with the AA incident (UPDATE)! “AITA for telling my brother I met his new girlfriend at an AA meeting?” #storytime #redditstories #reddit_tiktok #redditstorytime #update
They definitely lied about not drinking and driving and only doing it the one time because you don't get your license revoked until at least the 3rd time you get arrested for it.

Unpopular opinion but I think there would be less sympathy for the gf being outed if the gender roles were reversed. At the end of the day, the brother deserved to know and I’d want my sister to tell me also 🤷♀️

I have been in Al-Anon for 15 years. I say things in these meetings I wouldn’t ever say anywhere else. If I found out someone told someone what I shared I would never feel safe opening up again.

OP doesn't believe in AA
So, I really don't think they will be able to get anything out of AA

I'm going to be in the minority, but I feel we are focusing too much on the op and not what they asked. I'm sure most will agree that how op went about the situation wasn't the best, yet I would say being a sibling I would have warned my brother if I found out his brother was with such a person. Then how my brother chooses to handle the information is his choice.

OP taking accountability, and realizing that this is the consequences to their actions, is the first step

I feel like the “woe is me” presentation OP is giving shows they aren’t actually taking responsibility

I went to a AA meeting as a support person. While there I met an employee of a client of mine. This person freaked out when they saw me at their work. We went to the toilet to have a chat and I looked her dead in the eyes and said I NEVER met her. She’s still sober and employed and they don’t know. However, we’ve developed a casual friendship and every now and then catch up just to chat. She’s actually encouraged me to drink less.

if I was the girl, I would contact the prosecutor and agree to testify. Tell him what happened since he isnt taking AA seriously.

Soooo op literally just completely left out the prior legal issues AND that they only told brother cuz they’d been drinking and hypocritically outed someone else out of selfish guilt👀 op needs to skip ascon one and get comfy in that black hole. 😝 But they really need to see a psychiatrist there’s something really wrong with them

This is a good start and acknowledging mistakes and making apologies are part of the process 👏

If imminent danger were the case-the AA leader is who you go to. They will have dealt with situations like this before. OP was directing their issues at the girlfriend to take the focus off themselves.

From a therapist who worked in addiction for 2 years - and the program we used was AA. It does sound like the OP went from pre-contemplation to the update contemplation. Which is a step. Also working to take some accountability, it is growth. Even with all that what OP did, was hurtful.
