Listen, I understand your point. maybe this will help. You pay because you have to cover someone to pick up your trash, public school and education, Road and infrastructure repairs, sewers, etc. keep in mind this is also the people who run those services. I don't know where you are from, but somebody has to pay for that. Maybe where you're from you had all these things that we have in the US and you didn't have to pay taxes. However, If you don't pay for these services, who will?. I think you need to normalize property taxes because everyone benefits from it and demonize property insurance because those rates are much higher and we get nothing for that. At least with property taxes, your garbage is picked up, you have an infrastructure for water, etc .. The system does need an overhaul but not an elimination because then who will fix the road, how will we fund schools, etc? Asking to eliminate property taxes entirely, that affects everybody, and will make things extremely expensive for the homeowner. Sorry I'm putting it in English, I write faster that way. My parents came from Cuba in the '50s. their property taxes were way less than mine, but if there's one thing that's American is death and taxes. Also, If you really want to rant on taxes, the most frustrating part is that you could pay off your house, but you'll still owe property taxes on it forever. Even if you get exempted because of old age, whoever inherits the house will have a bill when you pass away which they may not be able to afford resulting in them having to sell the house.
