@ohhowcivilized: Let’s have afternoon tea at The Ritz in London. The Ritz in London and The Ritz-Carlton are 2 different luxury hotels owned by different companies. The afternoon tea at The Ritz is iconic and I’ve only heard good things so I was really excited to go. But, getting a reservation was incredibly hard to get. Everything was booked but I checked the site every single day hoping a table would open up and I checked in the middle of the night before my flight out to London and I was able to get a table! Out of all the afternoon teas I went to in London, The Ritz was the fanciest. Jeans, shorts, sneakers, and sportswear aren’t permitted. Afternoon tea is served every day and they have 5 seating times starting at 11:30AM. The last seating is at 7:30PM. It’s £81 for adults, which is around $110. The food and tea is unlimited and they had a pianist playing on the grand piano. The servers are dressed in tuxedos with tails and they move in symphony, carrying trays of silver teapots. I ordered 2 different teas, starting with The Ritz Blend, their own English breakfast tea. A 3-tiered tray came out with plates only on the top 2 tiers. The top tier had the desserts and the middle tier had tea sandwiches. When we were halfway done with the tea sandwiches, they brought out another plate with extra tea sandwiches and placed it on the bottom tier. The tea sandwiches were excellent. Each one was better than the next. After finishing the tea sandwiches on the middle tier, they took that plate away and brought out scones, clotted cream, and jam. The portion size of the scone was great as was the clotted cream. They tasted good, but the ones at Fortnums were better. They switched out my tea to an oolong. On the top tier were sweets and they were very good. Just when you think you’re done, they rolled over a trolley with 2 cakes. I was way too full and couldn’t eat another bite so I had to skip it.
