Yes the church helped start and supported both the artistic and scientific advancements in the Renaissance. It’s literally taught in high school

This was also because a lot of people were illiterate, bibles weren’t masses produced, and the art helped people connect with the stories.

Up until the Renaissance, almost all artwork was religious. Even kings commissioned religious art for their palaces to connect their rule to divinity.

Well, I do completely agree with this and I hate the way. Church is trying to use this reactions to replicate “ spiritual feelings” but I like to think there’s a chance that somebody just really loved the Lord and was like this would be beautiful

There’s a reason for the harmonious voices all chanting as one. Vibrations are a powerful tool.

the church and the state commissioned art because the average citizen was illiterate and artwork was the only way the church and state could convey messages to the public. The poses, gestures, clothes of figures and symbols in the artwork were standardized and used by all artists so that the illiterate public would be able to automatically decipher and understand the story/scene being portrayed in the artwork. (i.e. Virgin Mary wore blue; the man sticking his finger in Jesus wounds is always doubting Thomas; a dog represented fidelity).
Regarding music-- the state understood that things said in rhyme (or 'in time') were easy to remember and had a ring of truth and rhythm was inspiring, thus music was another way to convey messages and expectations to the illiterate populace. that's why secular music was banned-- if another body besides the church/state hijacked this method of information spreading, the hold the church/state had on the public would be jeopardized.
