An autistic boy SA’d me in college , and they refused to remove him from my class because he had Autism , I also have autism and was later suspended for telling my female peers to look out for him , this needs to stop.

as an autistic girl, I too had to deal with rude cruel autistic boys even a down syndrome boy, I realized that autistic girls get told to behave and get in trouble when we try to defend ourselves. yet the boys don't get punished enough.

Like, it's not even just with autism. In society, girls are told from a young age to mask any unwanted behavior while boys aren't. I.e. the whole "boys will be boys" saying, excusing any bad behavior they have with "that's just how they are".

Parents don’t realize that no one else cares about their kid the way they do. The courts don’t care, the cops don’t care, employers don’t care… no one else is going to let that slide

I think it’s mostly because parents of autistic boys tend to get a diagnosis early and that causes some of them to not bother with discipline because in their heads autistic = bad behaviour, so they don’t bother correcting it because “it won’t work anyway, that’s just how he is” and never realise that what’s actually happening is often the product of coddling, not autism.

Like yes, there are social struggles that come with autism, but when those behaviors hurt other people they need to be corrected to keep the kid and their peers safe.

A lot of parents think that autism is an excuse to not discipline their kids, and that's sad.

It’s not the autism, it’s the spoiling. I’ve worked with children’s party to pay my university tuition and I’ve seen a lot of these kids - with no autism, no neurodivergency - just doing this kind of things.

My autistic daughter was at a friend's bday party. Saw candles. I as the parent recognized the second the impulse to blow them out took over. My hand was on the back of her shirt holding her back. No fuss, no muss, incident avoided and we had a talk later. She struggles with impulse control and self regulation, therefore it is my job to help her in that department. Not excuse it.

it's actually dangerous to not behave your autistic boy.. because if he met the wrong people at the wrong time and you're not there to baby him, it's gonna be devastating, and the kid is gonna suffer cause his parents failed to discipline and take care of him

I'm autistic and I was never cruel to people like this. autism may explain a behavior but it doesn't excuse it. same for any other mental illness or condition or neurodivergency.
