Side note: I think there is nothing wrong with calling yourself an influencer and still being the strong, educated and intelligent woman you are! That stereotype is perpetuated because people say “I’m not an influencer” when they do influence on a social platform. It’s a valid job and can be done by a really diverse range of women 🩷

The majority of the conversation was about influencers who are involved in paid partnerships with the Afghanistan government. I think the points they brought up were valid questions on the morals of travelling to an oppressive country, coming from the perspective of anyone who’s not a long-term follower of yours. Is it gifted, are you being sponsored, what is the purpose of you going there and creating content there, and how you are contributing to the people (as you’ve said is why you decided to go). I listened to the podcast and came away with openness and curiousity about your perspective and decision to travel there, not judgement or a fixed opinion as I did towards those working with the government.

I really appreciated your Afghanistan videos, you did a great job sharing the nuance in such a complex and tricky situation. I’ve seen a heap of guys travel there (from Aus too) without this backlash, so it sucks even more that it’s women criticising women 🫠🙃

SO disappointing that this was their take. You did an amazing job in providing a nuanced take this trip, as per usual. If anything, you gave all the reasons to not travel if you’re not of a certain travelling ilk while showing the beauty of countries most of us likely won’t travel to - I’ve always dreamed of visiting a lot of the Stans but I know I couldn’t hack it personally. You’ve never glamorised any of your trips and made it VERY clear this is how you like to travel, you’re experienced in doing so and you promote safety within it. Just wanna make it clear your target audience get it.
