@jyssalawa: Bindiya has dedicated her career to studying Fiji’s wetlands and freshwater ecosystems, identifying over a million individual species across Fiji and the Solomon Islands. Her work has been instrumental in conservation efforts, community education, and scientific research, particularly in understanding the ecological importance of wetlands—which she calls the “Kidneys of the Earth.”Her innovative approaches, such as the “Traffic Light Bioindicator” (TLB) field guide and the “Meandering Mates Hunt” game, have made science more accessible to communities, empowering them to monitor and protect their own environments.Currently, Bindiya is pursuing her doctoral studies at University of the South Pacific, where she is developing Fiji’s first nationally-owned freshwater wetland assessment tool, the Odonata Index of Fijian Wetland Integrity.
