Rejection is when the mare wants nothing to do with the foal, and/or is aggressive and sometimes kicks or bites the foal. This mare is doing what she needs to in order to take care of her foal.

Not all horses will use nickering to teach them their voices, sometimes they do indeed use squealing instead, the fact that she’s grooming her baby is a good sign! :)
