@sophie.e.smithh: Replying to @Mms If you are a HS parent, you need to understand how important the extra info section is on the Common App! Make sure you are using it correctly!! #applyingtocollege #collegeadmissions #parentsofteens #commonapp
So if my daughter has lighter extracurrriculars because she had to have multiple surgeries due to injuries and spent half her high school career in PT, that box would be the place to explain it?

Grades tanked unexpectedly in 10th grade and then diagnosed with dyslexia with grades improved with additional support. I take it that would fit here?

My son is a senior and couldn’t get math in his schedule this year. But he took BC last year. There are other math classes at his school though. Mention? No?

Can we use this to explain why my autistic son didn’t take ap classes for the stress? Or is that making an excuse?

Grades in 9th grade were awful cause dad moved across the country leaving kids behind. How do we explain that w/o “blaming him” per se

So, my son got completely overwhelmed in jr year. I don’t think he realized that this was the critical year. (He is incredibly smart but just dropped the ball) He realizes now but not much can happen in his senior year. Can you advise how we could explain this and make it clear that he’s taking accountability?

My son is a straight A student but only with a few AP classes. He had a mental breakdown at the end of middle school. He mentally, physically and emotionally couldn’t handle taking any AP classes for the first 2 years. He now feels bad that he didn’t take them and is worried about his college acceptance. Should we add that to the application?

My very smart perfectionist (all honors classes, high class participation, etc) daughter was late diagnosed with ADHD in sophomore year and had a few lower grades that year. After supports and medication, junior year was all A/A- grades in honors/AP. Is late diagnosed ADHD something she should explain?

What about surgery 10 days before ap test? Resulted in a 4, but compared the the rest of the app it’s an outlier.
