@ejrdodd: One of the many wishing trees in the Lake District 🌳 Hammering coins into tree stumps or fallen trunks like this one is a common “cultural phenomenon”, with numerous money trees dotted across the region… often studded with thousands of coins! This tradition has been done for centuries and is believed to bring good luck, with each coin representing a wish (although misfortune was said to follow anyone who tried to remove one!). It’s much like tossing a coin into a fountain or a wishing well in the hope your wish will come true… I think they’re a lovely reminder of all the souls who’ve been there and paused in the same spot to admire the landscape 😌 But please don’t hammer coins into living trees as the metal can damage them! 🌳 . . . . #moneytree #wishingtree #lakedistrict_uk #nature
