In this passage, Jesus responds to a woman who praises the womb that bore Him and the breasts that nursed Him by highlighting a greater blessing: adherence to God’s word. In our daily lives, we are often surrounded by a cacophony of voices and opinions. It can be challenging to discern which voices to listen to. Jesus, in this verse, points us towards the voice of God. The blessing comes not only from hearing God's word but from keeping it—a call to action and obedience. This obedience involves internalizing His teachings and letting them guide our actions, decisions, and interactions with others. Keeping the word of God means making it a living part of us. It's about transformation from the inside out. This transformation occurs when we apply what we learn in Scripture to our lives, leading to a more Christ-like character. It’s about daily choosing God’s way over our own, continually surrendering to His will. This call to action is not just about avoiding wrongdoing but about actively doing good—engaging in acts of kindness, spreading love, and upholding justice. It’s about being lights in the world and salt of the earth, as Jesus taught in the Sermon on the Mount. By doing so, we not only experience God’s blessings ourselves but also become conduits of His blessings to others.
