I asked for an angel food cake with strawberries and cream for my 16th birthday. Amazingly my single parent, full time working mum, made it for me. Amazingly beautiful cake. Your MIL will love it. (Not sure about the chocolate icing though!)

Tip: check your local library to see if they have a loan program! My local library lets people borrow baking pans, small kitchen appliances (mixers, slow cookers, etc), and loads of other items. Also, if you have a bulk food store (like Bulk Barn in Canada) you can buy the exact amount of dry goods you need instead of buying larger amounts from a grocery store :)
