My gut reaction if an employee tells me they are going to the hospital and don’t return my calls is to find out if they are OK, not rush to terminate. No empathy at all.

I feel like that manager was just itching to get rid of her anyways and used this as an excuse. I went to the hospital and my manager texted me asking if I was okay & needed anything. Something like that should be standard procedure.
