@fly.goldseal: Airplane engines generate a lot of heat. This is common with combustion engines. Most of that heat is expelled in the exhaust gases. The vast majority of airplane engines are air-cooled using ram-airflow through the engine compartment to carry away some of the heat produced. Air-cooled engines are also dependent on the circulation of lubricating oil for proper cooling. This makes your oil pressure and temperature gauges very important, and they need to be part of your instrument scan.
