@julietteamie: I am so interested to know your thoughts on this and what the deal is? Also who else has been to adirondacks & has any MUST see or must eat suggestions for us!!! We love it already 🥲 #britinamerica #cultureshock #adirondacks #lifeinamerica
Depends where you’re located. In many communities with low crime people leave the house open - my parents do in Jamestown RI.

We used to when I was growing up and only lock it for bed. We lived in the middle of nowhere without neighbors even. One time we came back from church and someone had stolen our milk haha just the milk. We locked it after that.

I’m in NH and we literally don’t know where are housekey is, but you’re right, it’s not worth the risk, and we really should be locking our doors.

If you live rural, there’s no point locking up because if someone is going to rob you, a locked door isn’t going to stop them. They’ll break a window and no one will hear it anyway, and it’s rare. Urban lock up, robbers are more opportunistic and your neighbors would hear a breaking window. Small town, neighbors are nosy and will notice anyone “out of place” or going into someone’s home, and rare.

Definitely depends on where you are- when I lived in Massachusetts? Absolutely not, everything is triple locked. Growing up in rural Michigan? I’m not sure any of us even knew where the house key was 😅 even now, I think I’m the only one of my family that consistently locks my doors, you could go to any of my family members homes and walk right in.

Craziest travel thing on safety for me was a rental in Iceland and the owner told us to just leave the payment in the kitchen drawer. He never even met us. lol 😂

I grew up in the suburbs of Boston and my family only locked the door at night when we were going to sleep. I live in a city now and I do lock my door.

it depends where you live. I grew up in NH & never locked the doors or even car doors. when I came back to NH to visit my dad would get mad at me for locking car door when we went out somewhere. 1 place my dad lived was near a mental institution & one time 1 had escaped and went into my dad's house, he came home & doorbell was locked. so he knocked and stranger answered door. he asked for himself, they said no, he left and called police.

Florida here- So we only lock up when we are way for an extended period of time. We will lock when we go to work but that’s pretty much it. Running to the store or to a friends’, we don’t lock

It is a common thing in the suburbs not to lock their doors. Then they are so shocked when they come home and find it a mess and things missing. I always lock my doors no matter if I am home or away. Better safe than sorry is my philosophy

Suburbs, I have learned, don't lock their doors. I grew up in the city, and the heck I every door and window was locked. I was thinking the other day, if you don't have jewelry, is there much you can steal from a home that you can actually hock? Resale these days doesn't make house robbery worth it.
