It has always bn in our tamil wedding rituals.. we start the wedding with it normally on a wednesday.. prior to the wedding on Sunday..

Muhurtakal rituals, before a tent or pantel is fixed will notify people there going to be a wedding house. Usually it is done on tall branch. If cannot find long branch then short also ok.
