Dr. Kemba Black from Kelsey Seybold is the only doctor Noah has had since he was a newborn. Three of our children have already aged out of her care, and he only has one more visit with her before he also ages out at 18. Being a mom who has had her fair share of health issues, it was super important to me that all my children had a great doctor I could trust. There is safety in knowing your children are in really good hands. Dr. Black always listened to my concerns with the kids. She would do testing to ease my mind, knowing my history, if I was still unsettled. I’ve always stayed on top of my kids’ health and never played with symptoms that seemed odd. I always knew that if something was wrong with one of my children, she would do whatever it took to get them the tests they needed or get them to the right doctor. Having her as their doctor truly felt like a partnership. We all relied on each other to do their part. She never dismissed any of my concerns. She never made me feel like I was being too watchful over their health. And yes, this topic is heightened for me, and yes, I watched them like a hawk to make sure they were always healthy. Trust me, I notice the slightest changes with them. When Dr. Black mapped Noah’s growth as a child, she said he would probably be about 5’9”. I said, “Wait a minute. All the men on my side are tall, and the men on my husband’s side are tall. We just didn’t get the gene. Don’t write him off just yet for height. 😉” She said, “Okay, he may get taller than that then.” Today Noah towers over his cute doctor at over 6’ tall. We told her about him driving, having a girlfriend, and his desire to work in the medical field. She gave him advice on all three of those topics. Anytime she gives him advice, it’s the exact advice we already gave him or agree with, and honestly, I love that she does that. Sometimes I even tattle on my kids. Yup, I sure did and still do. Nothing crazy, obviously, but when she’d ask, “Are you brushing your teeth?” and they’d say, “Yeah,” I’d say, “Do NOT lie to her.” Stuff like that. 😂 It will not be easy when he ages out, but I know she’ll send him to a really good doctor to care for him when she’s done. She didn’t just take care of my kids. She helped take care of me too. She gives really good recommendations. Through the years, I’ve actually reached out to her a few times (that’s how much I trust her) with my own issues, asking who she thought would be a good doctor to see. She always gave really good recommendations. One of those recommendations? The doctor I went to see for the complex cyst that turned out to be a borderline ovarian tumor. The one who actually listened to me and ordered a test based on my symptoms. That doctor is still my doctor to this day. So, see, she is far more than just my kids doctor. She has been part of our lives for almost two decades. I trust her completely with my childrens health. It’s nice knowing you have someone in your corner helping to make sure your children are healthy. Do I think this is harder for me than him? Yes. Yes, I do. But it’s because she’s been with us for so long, and it’s really hard to find amazing doctors like her. It’s just hard. She is one of my favorite doctors ever!!! And I’m so glad that even though she refuses to take care of adults, she at least took care of my children. 💜 #kelseyseybold #drblack #bestcare #kelseyseyboldcypress
