People hate admitting, not only that fatphobia is prevalent, but that they are comfortable and happy in a fatphobic world.

op referencing the kpop industry to make a point like it’s not ground zero for colorism fatphobia and forced plastic surgery is insane 😭

K-Pop fans will defend this genre to death despite the abhorrent ways those artists are treated. As if we didn't watch a girl group get duped into stepping on a scale, during an interview, and having their weight displayed on a screen for everyone. And that's MILD.

Kpop groups literally demand everyone in there especially women be damgerously underweight to "manage themselves" and pretend its for dancing when professional dancer all weigh more and dance better

It’s weird people acting like GAP planned, concepted, booked, produced and executed that ad entirely after the Sydney Sweeney ad? No it was just coincidental

I fear there are more important things in the world than making a big deal over a girl group. Yes Katseye isn’t peak representation… but it is still a diverse group of talented young women who represent a lot of people. Let’s put our energy somewhere else luvs

Most fat people are not atheletes though— like sure its possible to overweight and athletic but thats very rare. Most fat people are not atheletes and often dont exercise that much and/or make poor food choices

sometimes when you criticize these systems and Korean companies, there'll always be someone acting like you hate these artists. wish we could have more nuanced conversations in these spaces

That comment is so weird. Folks like that are so corny. They’re really out here like “I like it so your critique is irrelevant even though I can’t prove it’s incorrect.”

This must be new gen bc in 3rd gen most of us knew how problematic K-pop is, for example the UI diet. A meal in that diet was one Korean sweet potato…

These same people will speak at length about the stifling beauty standard that forced these K-pop idols, both male and female, to undergo these extreme diets (oftentimes at the behest of their label/management). But now, this thinness is a symptom of dance practice 🙄 okay

and if we're gonna talk about kpop, they can't even handle jeongyeon who literally does the exact dances as all the other members of twice. it's about body image, not athleticism.

There are FAT ATHLETES in all kinds of sports but for some reason Kpop Idols can't be fat because they are dancers??? PLEASE.

people don't realize even kpop idols who can sing are like there are bigger people who can sing just give them a shot. Also I watched this boys planet show and the chubbier guy was the best in his group and the only critique he was given was "if you were lighter you'd move better." 🤔 He's the best dancer and yet hes....okay whatever and then they cut him from the competition

Ok first you have to define fat because it’s too vague a word. Fat to you may be different from fat to someone else. If the term isn’t clearly defined this will be circular. Do you mean a slightly bigger more curvy but still athletic or actual 300 pound should be represented?

Do we think k-pop is American? Like I don’t mind the conversation but why are you like trying to force America onto K-pop
