this comment section has never worked in the service industry and it shows… legally in most places you’re not allowed to serve people more than 3 oz (about 90ml) of alcohol per drink. most cocktails only have about 1.5 oz (45 ml) to 3 oz of booze total, plus any other ingredients whether it be sugar, citrus, etc. depending on the drink. at most, a cocktail will have about 4 oz (118 ml) of total ingredients. after shaken and diluted, about 5 oz. most standard collins glasses fit anywhere from 10-14 oz (295ml-415ml) total. you’re going to need ice to make up the difference/fill the drink to the wash line. ordering “less ice” does not mean the bartender will add “more booze.” you’re following a recipe, just like in cooking. if you add too much of something, it usually doesn’t come out very well. i PROMISE you, no one is trying to rip you off. you’re getting the same amount of alcohol, regardless of the glass it comes in

That’s how all ice works. Regardless of if it’s all one piece of ice or a bunch of broken up pieces of ice. When you get a drink, it’s usually 3.5 ounces of liquid. Have a great day.
