My headcanon is that the strange ox would be "scanned" at the entrance of Baldur's Gate if he went there as a "living being". In a world where druids exist and shapeshifters are a known thing, I doubt guards aren't suspicious when it comes to animals. Going as an apple makes sure that he would just get to go without looking suspicious to anything or anyone.

Well, it didn’t really seem like too many of the absolutists were actually tadpoled. In the middle of battle, Gortash could mess with the True Souls, but probably not the rest. Not unless he had time to talk to them and persuade them, I’d think.

Aren’t the three stones together necessary to give commands to the Netherbrain? When the army marches, it’s the Netherbrain guiding it, so technically he could try fighting for real, unless I’m missing something.

I always just assumed Ketheric and Gortash had a little meeting planned. And as we all know, Ketheric can take gortash in a fight. Gortash is useless without his guards, and for guards to be effective they have to be non-tadpoled. But if non tadpoled guards see him interacting with Ketheric, the plan fails.
