@natbco: AT LONG LAST Amtrak’s new NextGen Acela trains are here. I took a round-trip from DC to Philly to see what they’re like. They’re still working out the kinks (we had some mechanical delays), and we’re not catching up to Japan or France anytime soon, but it still feels like a win. See you on board @We are a newspaper.
why is DC to Philly 400$. trains are supposed to be cheap

Boston to NYC starts at $70, Boston to DC starts at $88, which is the same price as the current Acela's. Booking last minute is $150-300, but can be up to $700 depending on demand.

Great review - ridiculous prices (even when booked in advance). Only caters to a small % of the population who’d even be interested in riding the train in the first place.

$400 to ride on a train that’s 35 years behind Europe, not even close to as comfortable, slower, and 3x as expensive!

since the railroad itself doesn't allow for high speed travel, the US will have to wait for California to finish their HSR before we can officially say that we have HSR

USB-A is actually a very good thing. USB-C = having no USB at all. Type C just isn’t durable enough to handle daily use over years, type C ports on public transportation almost never work in my experience. I also have a deeply rooted hatred for USB type C and the damage it’s done to the industry.

The trainset top design speeds:
Design (with tilting): 187 mph (300 km/h)
Design (without tilting): 220 mph (355 km/h)
Northeast Corridor track top speed 160 mph (257 km/h)
The government should fund Amtrak to upgrade the tracks
