Life always hits us with the most unexpected things. It began with a faster than normal heart rate, and regurgitation on a more frequent level. After noticing a sizeable lump on his neck, a vet visit alongside labs, antibiotics, and a cytology was done. Nothing. Then surgery became our next option, and it was a success! Or so it seemed.. 5 days later he stopped eating. 5 days later he stopped being the big boy who ate and conquered over kibble like a feral cat. Kugi, my big boy of 4 years has been diagnosed with thyroid carcinoma (cancer), along with a previous diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (heart disease). He is my lucky charm and greatest thing that has ever happened to me. The sweetest, most nonchalant grandpa looking cat. He doesn’t know how to console me when I cry, but he sits near me and slowly winks his eyes at me, letting me know that he is there for me. I don’t know how I’ll be able to live without him. He’s been with me while I was homeless, while I was being physically abused, and when I was at my lowest. Let me tell you about Kugi. Kugi loves food, especially the weekly meat rotations mom prepares (and occasional scraps off mother’s plate).. He loves playing outside and activating his cat instincts, with some of his favorite toys being peacock feathers and cat dancer! His favorite playing style is ambush hunting, but also occasionally joins his human caretaker in her games of hide and seek. Kugi has two other siblings that do not get along without his presence, it is safe to say that he has become the connector, or glue, in my family. Favorite colors are blue and yellow, favorite iPad kid app is “Mouse for Cats” and goes absolutely bonkers (which is why he is only allowed to play on the bed). Sometimes, pets aren’t just animals. They’re family, an extension of yourself, your other half, having a feline is like intertwining two lived experiences into one, they become a part of you. Your kindness and support will save his life. He has not given up, and I will not give up. I will share updates every step of the way, and in time, with greatest hope, this phase will just be another story with a happy ending. Thank you for reading, and thank you for supporting whether it is a share, a prayer, or a donation. 💜 Link in bio
