I love how his lore is very complex. Because the balance between good and evil was unbalanced(Meliodas working with the Goddesses) so they had to turn Mael into Estarossa. Real Gowther knew it was gonna happen so he created a doll like being that looked like his dead lover. he did it before he died/was sealed away along with the rest of the demons. That doll having a humanity fell in love with a human girl who was ill. she also happened to be the sister of the old king and father of Elizabeth. She died of illness yet Gowther was considered a "murderer" because people thought he killed her. Right before they were gonna execute him, he swore to never love(I think?) and took out his own heart, eventually leading to his amnesia and no emotions.
