PS: I totally appreciate the suggestion of a village and time out - those are wonderful things to help supplement more acute treatment of a genetic condition that’s been a gentle hum for me for many moons & is only getting more difficult. I’m choosing to break the cycle 💛

Oh Chloe. ❤️My GP told me when I was struggling “of course we can try more support, some self care, but sometimes the body just doesn’t generate enough happiness (serotonin) for us to do that, sometimes we need to top the happiness up medically so we can then do the self care, and get the support.” You get it. ❤️

I understand that comment was meant with good intention - but saying motherhood is smotherhood is normalising feeling overwhelmed and I think we as the village can do better for each other than accepting that we will lose ourselves

speaking to a doctor, and getting the medical support you need IS self care ❤️you're doing the very best you can to care for yourself and it is so hard to reach out for that kind of support

I wish people could accept that you can use medications that come from science AND “medications” that come from being in the sun, having a cuppa, a warm bath at the same time. Both are valid. Both help in different ways. Said it on your last post and saying it here; I’m proud of you for doing what is the best for YOU, which in turn will allow you to be the best mum for Violet, best wife to Pat, best daughter and best friend. 🖤🖤 Love you Chlo!

Girl, go you 💕I put it off for 5.5 years after the birth of my child. Finally started on antidepressants and I can’t believe how great I feel and gosh I wish I started sooner. It’s like the fog lifted.

Hey! Same! And ultimately realised even with treatment i wont make it, not through another new born. And have had to make a heartbreaking decision to not have more kids. Thats me breaking my family cycle. Thats me doing the best i can for my one kid. Youve got this. Try out all the meds you need, find your rest xx

Medication changed my life completely. I’m so happy I finally got the help I needed. It helped enhanced my life in so many ways for 3 years. I no longer need it but it helped me get to this spot that I no longer need it

This is SUCH an important topic. Medication and mental health needs to be de-stigmatized!

Mental Health Medication 💊 has made my husband worse now than before he was on them! The doctors have no effing idea what they are doing and there are no warnings before taking antidepressants!!! Mental Health needs to be taken more seriously and help needs to be more accessible without costing an arm and a leg to get support 😡 Our government are money hungry vultures and unfortunately this may never change 🥺

I had pretty nasty PPD and PPA, medication was the only thing that helped me relax and enjoy my small beany boy. That was me, caring for myself so I could care for my son. Medication is self care. Violet will thank you one day for taking steps to care for you so you can care for her. 💕

I had to be medicated for the first time ever after my 2nd baby. It made all the difference to me being able to seek other forms of help, like recommencing hobbies, sleeping more and engaging with therapy. Sometimes you need to level the playing field first so you’re capable of doing all the self care things that will help you ❤️

If it wasn’t for my amazing GP telling me I needed to be on medication after the birth of my second son I wouldn’t be here. No amount of self care or village could’ve saved me from the deep dark hole I was in.
