@furahameansjoy: This bothers me so muchhhhhhh 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫 like the fact that the EDM versions are known more than the originals and eaten up by white folks who do not make the connection to the original music or the original artists is such a problem. Especially in a rapidly right leaning Europe where the people who hail from the very same source of inspiration are subjected toward anti-immigrant policies and public sentiment. And even more so when the same folks travel to Africa but have no desire to engage with the local culture - they only want to experience it through the EDM filter to make it palatable to listen to. #edmmusic #barrycantswim #ellayali #ouda #africanmusic
They do this for kikuyu songs too. It aggravates me

South Africa has been pushing Afro house for years and it's a shame that we're only recognized for Amapiano

Nobody gives Africans or Africa enough credit. As a white (non practicing) woman this really upsets me, especially the the traumatic lyrics being made into a club song. If you can't even translate it don't touch 🤦🏽♀️

that’s why I respect Disclosure and Sampha. They both work with African artists and give them full featuring credits.

And what’s wild to me is that as an AA, South Africa has been CARRYING house music. They took our music into their hearts and have helped to advance the genre more than anyone else, in my opinion. But all you hear about is Europe, “EDM” and techno 🙄

the gentrification of Afro House (which South Africa has been carrying on its back) is one thing I'm not enjoying.

It’s like how the world thinks chocolate comes from Switzerland or France or Belgium and not Ivory Coast and Ghana. Or how leather doesn’t comes from Italy but Nigeria. We’ve always been takers. The good NEWS is today we have social media so white people can no longer hide
