Even sports like pickleball or running require lateral control—but most of us don’t train for it. Today’s movement is all about lateral weight shifts—because confident movement means being ready for the unexpected, not just walking in a straight line. 💪 What I’m showing today—and why it matters: 🌿 Shimmying through the garden bed:
→ Reaching, stepping, and balancing on uneven ground. 🧺 Carrying laundry around corners:
→ Loaded movement requires more control than you think. 🏋️♀️ Dragging my workout bench out to film:
→ Yep, that’s lateral movement too—core, hips, and all. 🐶 Sidestepping over my dog (in the middle of my filming space!)
→ Hello, real-life obstacle course. Unpredictable side steps are everywhere. 🎯 Movement Progressions: 1️⃣ Lateral Weight Shift + Leg Lift (with chair support)
Perfect intro to side-to-side balance. Feel where your weight is shifting. 2️⃣ 3-Step Lateral Travel + Hold
Adds rhythm + pause. Mimics real movement like shuffling in a closet or tight kitchen space. 3️⃣ Lateral Shift + Opposite Arm + Knee Drive Hold
Now we’re getting athletic—core, coordination, and balance under challenge. Great for pickleball players, hikers, runners... and busy humans in general. ✨ Balance isn’t stillness—it’s responsiveness.
