Actually, she has the law incorrect. Law states that you do have to hand your drivers license to the officer in a traffic stop. Driving is a privilege, and as with most privileges, there are certain responsibilities and laws that you have to adhere to.

it's funny because we know everybody takes some kind of driver's ed when they're young to get a driver's license and I usually told about rules of the road and dealing with officers totally forgot that whole day of knowledge
