Pepper plants can live up to 4-6 years! They are perennial by nature and given the right conditions, they have the potential to live for many years and continue to produce fruits. In colder regions like where I am. Prolong Temperatures below 10°C (50°F) can be harmful to the plant. So in order to keep them alive for many years, they will need to be overwintered indoors or in a heated greenhouse. If you do plant to bring them inside your house, make sure to trim off the leaves, cut the stem where it forms a Y shape, rinse the stems and roots and repot with indoor potting soil. This process will reduce the chance of bringing unwanted pests like thrips and aphids into your home. #gardentok #pepper

Why is #fresh wasabi so #expensive Real #wasabi can cost as high as $160 per kilogram (2.2 lbs) One factor that drives the cost is the difficulty to cultivate it. Wasabi requires very specific conditions, including constant running water, shade, rocky soil, and good temperature year round. It’s not meant to grow in winter hardy zones, but it’s not impossible. Though it is cold tolerant, it can’t survive below freezing temperatures, this means that it needs to be overwintered indoors or put in a warm greenhouse during winter. Also Wasabi has a really short shelf life and they are best consumed freshly grated. The commercial version that we are used to isn’t actually made of real wasabi but instead it is a mixture of horseradish, mustard flour, cornstarch, and green food colorant. I’m one year into this plant and fully committed to grow it now and hopefully we will be able to try fresh Wasabi by next year.
