He saved those who were waiting to be saved by someone. Buckle up, I’m gonna be annoying again. The common take about Satoru saving his students (literally even Gege’s one) is that he saved them only to exploit their techniques—and most importantly, that it all began after Suguru left him. According to this view, Gojo started surrounding himself with strong students just to fulfill Geto’s goal of reforming jujutsu society. But I’d like to unpack a few things here. We see Gojo and Geto protecting Amanai, and we see them talking about the possibility that she might not want to literally sacrifice her life for Tengen. Gojo and Geto were still teenagers, just starting to build their reputation as the strongest. Yet, when Geto considers the possibility of Riko backing out of her (essentially suicidal) mission, Gojo doesn’t question respecting her wishes for a second. And again—they were sixteen. I think this already shows Satoru’s selflessness and his instinct to protect younger students. When Suguru leaves, Gojo reflects on the importance of someone wanting to be saved—there’s no way to help someone who doesn’t want to be helped. That moment is like a turning point because he says it before taking in Megumi. For those who believe “Geto left him so Gojo saved Megumi because he needed someone else,” I think that quote reveals the truth: Gojo couldn’t help Geto. He couldn’t stop what eventually happened (and arguably, never could have). But this time he can. After experiencing Geto’s trauma—and after suffering the pain of losing someone he loved and couldn’t save—Gojo begins to focus on those who can be saved. Those who are waiting to be saved. And yes, this does come with a desire to improve jujutsu society too. Not only because Geto instilled that idea in him, but because Gojo genuinely wants to prevent other young students from enduring what they went through. The same logic applies when he saves Yuta and Yuji. Now, I know these students are ultimately still exploited by the system. But I don’t think that’s on Gojo. He’s always done everything he could to protect them from exploitation—like trying to assign them appropriate missions or stepping in when things escalate. Just think about when he checks in on Megumi even though he was only supposed to retrieve Sukuna’s finger. Or when he takes Yuji under his wing and trains him with movies. Or when he steps into Yuta and Inumaki’s mission once it becomes more dangerous than expected. The fact that he kept the last Sukuna finger. Or even in Shinjuku, he asks the students not to participate. So, to say that Gojo “exploited” his students because he was “left behind” etc.—is, in my opinion, one of the biggest misconceptions about his character. It reflects the broader narrative in the series, where people constantly reduce his actions to the role of the strongest, rather than him driven by love. Now, ofc he’s not perfect. But society was only just beginning to change. He could never have saved his students without involving them in the process of change—and that, unfortunately, meant they had to endure severe trauma along the way. Last time I checked, a kid with traumas cannot save and take care of other kids with traumas in the most impeccable way. Also, I genuinely think that he didn’t have any other means of helping them than involving them in sorcery. Moreover, let’s try to imagine what kind of life Yuji and Yuta would’ve had with their curses, without learning how to control them or how to use them to help others (Yuta literally attempted su1cide). I genuinely think he did his best—but most importantly—if Geto had never left, I still think he would’ve saved every single one of them. This is the first edit of mine that I really like so I hope it won’t get sabotaged. Hope I got all the subtitles right since my non-native English speaker ahh be hearing random stuff sometimes :’) #jjk #jujutsukaisen #jjkedit #jujutsukaisenedit #satorugojo #yujiitadori #megumifushiguro #fyp #xy #xyzabc #xyzbcafypシ
