This is probably the most adorable little moment of her 3-year-old sass I’ve caught on film so far. 😂☀️🐈 But to me, it’s so much more than that. Raising a child who understands, respects, and honors boundaries is such an incredible thing to witness. And honestly, it’s humbling to see the work we put into teaching her these things show up in such a simple little moment. The kitty didn’t want pets. Period She wasn’t sad. She didn’t cry because she didn’t get her way. She didn’t keep pushing because she wanted something different. She recognized the boundary, said it out loud, respected it… and moved right along. 🥹👏🏼 And THAT matters. Because boundaries aren’t something we only teach children to have for themselves. We teach them that other people—and apparently cats 😂—are allowed to have them, too. Being a stepmom is hands-down one of the hardest roles I’ve ever taken on. There are things I cannot control, environments I cannot change, and lessons taught in her other home that I will never agree with. But in our home, boundaries matter. Consent matters. Respect matters. “No” is a complete sentence, whether you’re 3 or 93. I can’t control what is modeled everywhere by the other side unfortunately and that she continues to see boundaries crossed over there. I can however be fiercely intentional about what is modeled when she’s with us. And watching this tiny human absorb it, practice it, and radiate so much light makes every hard part worth it. ☀️🤍 Keep honoring those boundaries, baby girl. Even the kitty’s.
