Press Trump won big yesterday in the courts, let’s talk birthright citizenship, nationwide injunctions, lgbtq books, etc. But first - What is the Supreme Court Well we know the three branches of government are the judiciary, the executive, and the legislative. Judiciary interprets law, executive enforces law, legislative makes the law. Supreme Court falls under judiciary and it’s the highest and most powerful court in that branch. They decide if things are constitutional and legal or not So recently, this has all came to be Because president trump, as part of the executive branch, has been signing these executive orders, for instance, he will sign an executive order that says you need proof of citizenship to vote. But the issue is, he’s been signing these orders, and immediately after, a federal district judge will put forth a nationwide injunction. That means that one judge in one place, can block a law or order for the whole country. And freeze it until they make sure it’s legal.

a federal district judge is a low level Jude in the national court system, there’s about 100 of them across the us So to recap

president trump will sign an order, these lower level judges will stop them Recently, president trump has issued a national order on birthright citizenship He tried to sign an executive order saying babies that are born here to illegal parents, aren’t automatically citizens The 14th amendment of the constitution says anyone born in the us and subject to it’s jurisdiction(authority, power), are citizens So now the big news of yesterday The supreme courts said three major things 1. They ruled 6-3, that president trumps executive order seeking to end birthright citizenship for kids born to illegal immigrants is allowed for now because they lifted the nationwide injunction, the nationwide ruling, that blocked it

the key thing here - they said put aside the actual issue of citizenship, lower court judges you cannot overstep your authority and block federal policies all across the country, you’re not above the president. these judges really only have authority in their own district. And when. You have multiple of these lower judges throwing out rulings left and right, its get’s confusing. It is gonna get messy? Sure. The lower courts could issue lawsuits and restrigin orders for their own districts or states, creating a patchwork of inconsistencies. The Supreme Court is going to be busy settling all these issues Okay the second big rulling. The Supreme Court voted 6-3 again that parents and their kids can opt out of lgbtq themed books in Maryland public schools. This one was a bit wild, the Maryland public school essentially said listen, we’re going to be reading lgbtq books, parents we’re not gonna tell you when, and they are mandatory. So a group of muslim and catholic parents argued that hey, the first amendment says that we are free to practice our religion and this violates that , I wanna teach my kid what I wanna teach my kid. So the courts said 6-3. - yeah Maryland you can’t do that - parents can opt out NEXT the third big ruling The Supreme Court upheld another law 6-3 in Texas that required age verification for users of pornography websites Federal district courts actually disagreed with that, and said anyone anyone should be allowed to access pornography websites. And so the Supreme Court stepped in and ruled that no that law by Texas requiring you to put in your age, is constitutional. Those under 18 should not be allowed on those cites. 11% of men self report being addicted to porn, 3 % of women

87% of young men report watching porn at least once and guess what the first exposure to porn is around 11 years old

So you know what go Texas good for you, good for the Supreme Court

you will notice that in a lot of these cases, the 6 -3 rulings were essentially the 6 republicans versus the 3 democrats, Presidents appoint Supreme Court judges, Donald trump appointed 3 of the 6 judges that voted on this, this is why who we elect is important!
