AuDHD with CPTSD so I learned to notice all the social cues and every facet everyone's moods. Trauma makes you VERY observant.

'You're a successful neurodivergent who survived without support' totally reframed my thinking and healed me a little.

No one was assessed in the 80’s - no female I ever knew. Looking back at my report cards (teacher comments) it was obvious. Our parents were not educated about this either at all. Alien feelings, constant creativity to survive, extremely sensitive, and so much more …. Lisa would be a lot more productive if she applied herself and stopped talking to peers during lessons- I was also a perfectionist who had excellent grades but argued with authority about the relevance of the topics and their application to real life. 😭😂😂😂👏

I've been a weirdo, an alien, a robot, a target. I've been naive, a perfectionist, OCD, watching butterflies, a jack of all trades, a Tom boy, shy, quiet, etc.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is how common the "alien" feeling is among us. That was one of my earliest internal thoughts about myself. I just had this knowing I was different. But I was neglected as a child, so no one caught it. We moved a ton and masking was the only way to get through life. I just changed all the things about myself that seemed to bother everyone within a 5 mile radius. Became a shell of who I am, and an angry shell, at that. It's what led me to my adhd diagnosis, and now autism. Living life on hard mode is definitely a true statement for us late diagnosed auDHDers. 😔

I can’t help but wonder where my life would have gone if someone took a minute to figure it out when I was young.

I always felt like I needed to use songs or poems to explain how I was feeling because I didn't know how to think of my own words . I'm still this way at 61

As a diagnostician it is so true, I am reassessing so many people that have been missed by previous assessor’s because they can’t “see it”. I have had so many years of training and can pick it up within a few minutes of meeting somebody, all because I’m trained to notice what others don’t.

Yale-educated doctor- diagnosed AuDHD at 38yo after I had my son and just couldn’t mask the same anymore as a mom. It was mind-blowing but the hardest part is that no one believes me. “You’re so successful”- no I’m burned out and exhausted, I was white-knuckling everything in my life for years but no one saw me.

Especially being female... My son's therapist was the one that actually diagnosed me. We were in a first appointment meeting and she spotted it right away, no eye contact, anxiety... It was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I realized why I had no friends in school, my chaos, routine, obsessions... So many years lost in being told I had depression from masking exhaustion, and meltdowns. So glad our future generations will have better...
